Statement of Intent

At our school, we believe that mathematics is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology, and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. Our intent is to provide a high-quality mathematics education that inspires curiosity, develops deep conceptual understanding, and fosters a sense of enjoyment and confidence in maths.

We aim to ensure that all children:

  • Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics through varied and frequent practice, so they develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge with automaticity.

  • Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, identifying relationships and patterns, and using mathematical language to justify and explain their thinking.

  • Solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of increasingly complex problems, breaking them down into manageable steps and persevering in seeking solutions.

We provide a curriculum that is carefully sequenced, coherent, and cumulative, allowing children to build on prior knowledge and make connections across mathematical ideas. We use concrete, pictorial, and abstract approaches (CPA) to support all learners, and promote a mastery approach so that every child develops a secure and deep understanding of each mathematical concept.

We are committed to ensuring that our maths curriculum is inclusive and accessible, allowing all children – regardless of background or ability – to develop confidence, resilience, and a positive attitude towards maths that will support them throughout their education and beyond.
