ParentsSchool Lunches
Text
At Kington St Michael CE Primary School, all of our children enjoy lunch in the school hall with their class.
Lunch breaks are staggered, allowing a comfortable environment for the children to eat their lunch and then play outside once they have finished. Children are supervised whilst eating at all times.
Cooked Lunches
We offer a healthy and nutritious cooked meal to every child, each day. Meals are cooked by Lataca and served in our school hall. Lataca’s menus meet and often exceed the government guidelines and they have also been awarded the Wiltshire Council ‘eat out, eat well’ gold award. All meals are regulated by the Food Standards Agency.
Meals are free of charge to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils (Key Stage 1) as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals programme.
Pupils in Years 3-6 (Key Stage 2) are encouraged to have a hot meal at lunch time, priced at £3.85 per day. Meals for KS2 pupils are free of charge if your child meets the requirements for Pupil Premium – please see below for more information on this.
Parents should make all lunch orders directly with Lataca, and any enquiries regarding lunches should be directed to them. Information on how to register and order can be found on Lataca’s website here.
Please be aware that if your child is absent from school, you will need to cancel their lunch order online the night before at the latest, otherwise payment will be taken.
Packed Lunches
We ask that packed lunches are as healthy as possible. Please try to include a piece of fruit, and avoid chocolate bars, sweets and fizzy soft drinks.
Please ensure all food items are free of nuts, for health and safety reasons.
SNACKS
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free fruit at break time. All children are welcome to bring a healthy snack from home for break time, if they wish.
MILK
Cool Milk is our school milk provider. Children under the age of five receive free milk every day. Parents can also buy subsidised milk for children once they pass their fifth birthday by ordering it directly from Cool Milk.
All children will need to be registered by parents on the Cool Milk website in order to receive milk - please do this here.
Pupil Premium Free School Meals
Free school meals are available for qualifying children in Years 3-6.
The government is giving money to schools to help children from lower-income families do their very best. This funding is called a Pupil Premium. If you are receiving qualifying benefits (listed below) the government will give your school a Pupil Premium of £1,480 for primary-aged pupils as of 2025-2026.
For the school and children Year 3 and above to benefit from this money, we need to know that you are receiving a qualifying benefit. Free school meals are not provided automatically, so you will need to either apply on the Wiltshire Council website here
or fill in the claim form below, and return it to the School Office.
Free school meals can be awarded only if you receive any of the following:
-
Income Support
-
Job Seeker's Allowance (income-based)
-
Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)
-
Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
